Variable-geometry pre-combustion chamber particularly suited for an indirect-injection diesel engine, of the type comprising a transfer passage 2' with a variable passage cross-section; according to the invention, this transfer passage has an inclined face 9 and a face 10 which is parallel to the axis of a cylinder 7' so that the piston 4' sliding in the latter can, as a function of its own position, modify the passage cross-section of this passage and the effective direction of the flow of gases in the latter, by means of a protuberance 8 formed at the top part of the piston and capable of becoming engaged in this transfer passage in the vicinity of Top Dead Centre.
