PURPOSE:To make switching between the servo control and manual operation of zooming automatically selectable so as to make an optical lens operating device easily operable, by providing a finger contacted state detecting means which detects the contacted state of the finger of a cameraman to the zoom operating switch of an optical lens whose zooming is performed by either servo control or manual operation. CONSTITUTION:A displacement detector 10 which detects the rotationally displaced quantity of a zoom operating switch 9 is fitted to the shaft 11 of the switch 9 as a finger contacted state detecting means for detecting the contacted state of the finger of a cameraman and a detect signal from the detector 10 is connected with a discriminating circuit 12 which instructs the zooming operation. In order to make zooming by servo control either the W side or T wide of the zoom operating switch 9 is depressed. Then a displacement signal is detected from the displacement detector 10 and a zoom driving motor 15 is driven by a motor driving circuit 16, and thus, the zooming is carried out. Therefore, the number of switches to be operated manually is reduced and handling of this device becomes easier.
