The present application relates to a magnetic recording medium which comprises a magnetic layer (2) and a support (1), said magnetic layer (2) containing an iron-aluminum type magnetic powder wherein the aluminum content of said magnetic powder is from 0.5 to 20 % by weight and a carbon black, wherein the BET specific surface area of the carbon black is from 15 to 80 m<2>/g and the DBP oil absorption of the carbon black is from 110 to 200 ml/100g.
