A roller-type test stand (10) for measuring power or braking force of motor vehicles is proposed, in whose associated working pit (11), the danger area (21) for an operator is protected by means of a grid-type photoelectric light barrier system (19). At the longitudinal sidewalls of the working pit (11), a plurality of photoelectric light barriers (24) are arranged one behind the other slightly below the frames (12, 13) of the roller-type test stand (10) in rail-like, horizontally extending profile housings (22, 23). Receiver cells (25, 27) are interrogated in a clocked manner according to a multiplex method and control a safety circuit (31) of the roller-type test stand (10) in such a way that when an operator penetrates the danger area (21) the roller-type test stand (10) is switched off or a safety function is triggered. <IMAGE>
