The container (1) according to the invention has, on the outer edge of its opening, an upper, curved part (6) which continues in a downwardly expanding shaped outer region in order to form a wide, curved region in the lower part. Below this edge the side surface of the container (1) is provided with an annular projection (10) which defines an inner, very open, U-shaped channel. The lid (2) of the container (1) has a considerable depth and forms a basic disc from which there rises vertically an annular ring of considerable height. This lid (2) has the feature that its outer side wall is provided with a multiplicity of projections (12) which are situated at the same spacing from one another, are extended in the direction of the circumference and have a very wide, angular profile. These projections (12) supplement the inner and annular channel of the container (1) so that when the lid (2) is connected firmly on the container (1) a clamping-type closure is obtained between the lid (2) and the container (1).
