A feed drum (44) for a cutting-off unit (30), which consists of a basket (48) and of a rotor (46) and the conveying direction of which is perpendicular to the axis of rotation (56) of the feed drum (44), is to be designed in such a way that unused spaces in the crop feed region (50) are avoided, in order to guarantee as controlled an introduction of the crop into the cutting-off unit (30) as possible. To solve this problem, it is proposed to make the outside diameter of the feed drum (44) different over its length and smallest in the region of the axis of rotation (58) of the rotor (46). In this way, the crop is brought as near as possible to the gaps (52), that is to say to the outer contour of the rotor (46), between the rotor (46) and the basket (48).
