摘要 |
Organic constituents are eliminated from exhaust air by irradiation with high-energy short-wave UV radiation having wavelengths of 185 nm and 254 nm. As a result of this irradiation, the exhaust air constituents, in particular chlorinated hydrocarbons, are excited to higher energy levels. At the same time, ozone is formed from the oxygen in the air. As a result of the 254 nm irradiation, the ozone formed is decomposed to form free oxygen radicals and molecular oxygen. These free radicals have very strong oxidising properties. As a result, the excited refractory substances are oxidised by the free oxygen radicals. The exhaust air thus pretreated is then further treated in a scrubbing column downstream of the treatment stage (3). <IMAGE>
