Radiation dose of laser beam radiation directed on a workpiece, e.g. of plastics, which changes colour on radiation is controlled by a method in which the workpiece is illuminated by a wide-band light source. The difference in the proportions of the red, green, and blue components of diffusely reflected light is used as a measure of the radiation.
