The invention relates to a pay-out device for modular threads, intended to assist in the production of a knitted fabric composed of several colours. It enables the operator easily to store the threads in the order in which they are knitted, to unreel them without entangling them and at different rates. In addition, at each change of row, when the work is reversed (returned) the device is also reversed very easily. The pay-out device is constituted by the assembly of identical elements. Each element is composed of a reel 2 which can move about a spindle 1. The spindle 1 possesses, at one end, a male threaded end-piece 5 and, at the other end, a female threaded end-piece 3 to enable two elements to be joined together. <IMAGE>
