A sheet metal break for forming three dimensional sign characters comprises a base having a planar work surface and a front edge, an elongated clamp having a workpiece clamping surface for clamping a workpiece against the work surface adjacent the front edge and defining a bend line, the clamp being secured to the base for pivotal movement about a transverse axis extending parallel to the base and perpendicular to the bend line between a clamping position whereat the clamping surface is proximate the work surface adjacent thefront edge, and a retracted position whereat the clamp is at least 90.degree. removed from the clamping position to permit a workpiece to be placed upon or removed from the work surface, an elongated bending device having a workpiece bending surface adjacent the front edge for engaging and bending a workpiece secured to the work surface by the clamp, the bending device being secured to the base for pivotal movement substantially about the bend line between angularly displaced positions, and a guide extending from the work surface at a right angle to the bend line for engagement with a longitudinal edge of a workpiece placed on the work surface.
