In the catalytic redn. of NO in a gas with NH3, NH3 is added to in a NO:NH3 molar ratio = 1:1 and the mixt. is reacted on the catalyst at 185-500 deg.C and normal pressure. Pref. the catalyst consists of: 1. a support; pref. (a) pure alpha-Al2O3 with a main pore radius of 90-110 nm; (b) a mol. sieve of 5-30 (wt.)% Al2O, rest SiO2, with a main pore radius of 0.5-2 nm; esp. (c, d, e) pure alpha-Al2O3 with a main pore radius of 100 nm; or (f) a mol. sieve with a main pore radius of 1 nm; and 2. 0.5-20, pref. 0.5-4% of a catalytically active component; pref. (a, b) V2O5, MnO2, CuO, Fe2O3, NiO and/or Y2O3; (c) 6-8% V2O5; (d) 3-8% V2O5 + MnO2 in 1:1 molar ratio; (e, f) 3-8 MnO2 + CuO in 1:1 molar ratio.
