Compounds of formula I <IMAGE> (I) wherein R1 is halogen; X is oxygen; or sulfur; Y is oxygen; or sulfur; A is a straight-chain or branched C1-C4alkylene chain; Q is hydroxy; halogen; cyano; unsubstituted or cyano- or halo-substituted C2-C6alkenyl; C2-C4alkynyl; -CR2=CH-COOR3; -CH[N(R2)2]COOR2; -NR4(R5); -CO-NR6R7; -COON=CR8(R8); -C(R2)(OR9)2; -Si(R10)3; -COOCH2Si(CH3)2-C1-C6alkyl; <IMAGE> -CON(R12)SO2-C1-C6alkyl; -CON(R12)SO2-C1-C4haloalkyl; C1-C6alkylcarbonyl; C2-C6alkoxyalkylcarbonyl; benzoyl; benzylcarbonyl; -COOR16; -CO-N(R2)CH2-CH2-CH(O-C1-C6alkyl)2; -COO(CH2)jN(R2)2; -S(O)k-R14; -S(O)k-A'-COOR13; or a five- or six-membered heterocycle containing from 1 to 3 hetero atoms selected from the group N, O and S and bonded via carbon or nitrogen, it being possible for such a heterocycle in turn also to be benzo-fused and to be substituted up to twice by halogen, C1-C4alkyl, C1-C3haloalkyl, C1-C3alkoxy, C1-C3haloalkoxy, C1-C3dialkylamino, hydroxy or by carbonyl groups; have good pre- and post-emergence selective herbicidal and growth-regulating properties.
