A solar air heater with permeable solar radiation absorber 3, wherein said plenum is separated with an air impermeable divider II into: a) at least one proximal plenum 10 situated between the permeable solar radiation absorber 3 and the divider 11, and b) a distal plenum 13 situated between the divider 1I and said boundary, at least one aperture 12 in the divider 11 allowing the air to flow from said at least one proximal plenum 10 into the distal plenum 13, the size and position of aperture 12 allowing to control the rate of air flow through different regions of the permeable solar radiation absorber 3.
