The method evaluates read and write performance of write once read many type optical disk by forming additional test recording layer on an optical disk. A test area is formed on an area of an optical disk, which is not included on recording area, with the same method as forming recording area, and writing and reading characteristics are tested in the area. The test area is formed inside or out side of recording area having range of 46 mm to 118 mm in diameter.
