The invention relates to an earmark for marking animals, which comprises a male part, formed by a stem with a conically thickened section at one end, and a female part, formed by a collar of a plurality of individually resilient segments between which ribs are arranged. When the male and female parts are joined together, these ribs prevent the thickened point of the male part, when it is fitted into the female part, being able to move laterally, with the result that the resilient segments can be pushed away from below the thickened point, in order in this way to be able to remove the earmark. Also, a coil and one or more electronic components may be arranged in one of the two parts, so that the earmark can be read electromagnetically at a distance, without contact.
