A self-boring and self-cutting screw (1) has a hardenable, plate-like boring part (7), a shank section (B) made of hardenable material and a section (A) made of stainless metallic which forms the shank section (5) and the head (4) of the screw (1). The area (6) of the thread, i.e. that area of the thread which cuts or presses the thread into the bore after boring, is arranged on the section (B), and is therefore provided with a hardened surface. The plate-like boring part (7) provides thus a good boring performance, an excellent production of the thread in the area of section (B), as well as an optimal attachment in the stainless area (A).
