Target for use in competitive clay pigeon shooting, which is in the form of a plate-shaped body of revolution which consists essentially of sand which is bound together by a silicate-based binder. In order to achieve vigorous disintegration when the target is struck by shot during shooting, combined with adequate strength for launching the target, the target has a porous structure, the sand included in the body having a close grain distribution and an average grain size of 0.2 - 0.3 mm, and the content of binder, which is potassium or sodium silicate, being less than 1.5% by weight. <IMAGE>
