The invention relates to an apparatus for the cooling of hot steam flowing through a pipeline (1), with an elongate nozzle rack (2) which projects into the pipeline (1) transversely to the direction of flow and which has water-passage orifices (5), the water feed of which can be regulated by means of a control member (10) projecting axially into the nozzle rack (2), and which is surrounded at a distance by a casing (3) which can be loaded with driving steam, the water-passage orifices (5) being assigned water-atomising devices. In order, in an apparatus of this type, at as low an outlay in terms of the construction as possible, to achieve a fine atomisation of the cooling water which is as uniform as possible during each setting of the control member (10), whilst at the same time the adjustment travel of the control member (10) is to be as short as possible, the invention proposes that the water-passage orifices (5) in the nozzle rack (2) be arranged in at least one row closely next to one another in the direction of displacement of the control member (10), and that a water-atomising device common to all the water-passage orifices (5) has a baffle plate (12) which is inserted into the casing (3) and which has an inclined baffle surface (14) opposite the water-passage orifices (5) and leaves free outlet orifices (13) for the water/driving-steam mixture. The fed cooling water is thereby finely atomised during each setting of the control member (10). Moreover, a short adjustment travel of the control member (10) can be brought about. <IMAGE>
