The invention relates to folding blanks having a rectangular bottom section (1) and four adjoining side sections (3a-6a, 3b-6b, 3c-6c, 3d-6d) which can be folded into a position forming side walls (3a-d) and partially overlaps the adjacent side wall(s) with connecting tabs (6a-d) and can be locked in said position by means of locking elements. The invention is based on the object of allowing a contour shape which can be produced easily and without waste in folding blanks of this type, permits easy setting-up of the blank to form the desired object and permits secure locking without gluing in the final erected shape. For this purpose, the flat folding blank has the contour shape of a rectangle with rectangular, preferably square, connecting tabs (6a-d) at the side edges of two mutually opposite side sections (3a, 3c) which have, at their free side edges, incisions (9a, 9b, 9') which bound flexible insertion tongues (7, 7') which are widened at their free insertion end for locking insertion in tongue-insertion openings (8, 8'), formed by correspondingly positioned incisions running in a U-shape in the side wall surfaces (3b, 3d) which are overlapped in the setting-up position and whose width at the insertion edge (10a, 10a') is less than the width of the widened insertion end of the tongue.
