<p>A method of measuring useful for controlling Ag halide (AgX) grain formation during nucleation and ripening comprises: (a) combining Ag+ and X- ions to form a suspension of nucleated particles; (b) removing a portion of the suspension; (c) treating the removed portion with a defloculant to eliminate floculation and separate flocs into individual nuclei to measure nuclei size; (d) determining the floc size by measuring the turbidity of the removed portion; and (e) determining the difference between the floc size and the individual nuclei size, a difference greater than 20 (50) n, being required if a high population of tabular grains is to be achieved.</p> |
