A storage system for the receipt of goods to be stowed by means of a fork lift truck (12) comprises an array of storage modules each formed by interlinked pillars (4) bearing cantilever arms (5). The pillars (4) are mounted on fixed rails (9) via wheels (8). The rails (9) and the modules supported thereon are closely spaced, access to an individual module being obtained by towing the module into a loading area upon a demountable rail assembly (13) that can be linked to the appropriate set of rails (9). A single loading area may serve two opposed arrays of modules thus providing a significant saving in space. |
