PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of extending the life of a discharge lamp.SOLUTION: One embodiment of a projector of the present invention comprises: a discharge lamp emitting light; a light modulation device modulating light emitted from the discharge lamp in accordance with image signals; a projection optical system projecting the light modulated by the light modulation device; a discharge lamp drive unit supplying driving power to the discharge lamp; a cooling unit capable of cooling the discharge lamp; a control unit controlling the discharge lamp drive unit and the cooling unit; and an electric voltage detection unit detecting a voltage between electrodes of the discharge lamp. The control unit can perform power fluctuation driving that periodically fluctuates the driving power supplied to the discharge lamp, and controls the cooling unit, in the power fluctuation driving, based on the voltage between electrodes detected by the electric voltage detection unit and the fluctuated driving power.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8 |
