FEEDER FOR A WOOD PROCESSING MACHINE AND METHOD OF FEEDING WOOD

A feeder for feeding smooth-surfaced wood pieces forwardly toward and past a fixed cutter includes a feed member having teeth which penetrate and advance the wood pieces. The extent of penetration of the teeth into the wood pieces is limited by a flat bearing surface formed on the feed member and recessed with respect to outer ends of the teeth. The penetration depth can be in the range of 0.5 to 1.0 mm.
