FIELD: rocket arc-jets for space vehicles; correction and stabilization of orbital parameters of space vehicles; transfer of satellites from low to higher orbits, to geostationary orbit; control of satellites. SUBSTANCE: engine has two arc stages; cathode of first arc stage is made in form of cylinder with circular working surface at the end whose emitting surface exceeds that of working surface of rod cathode by 10 and even 100 times (depending on diameter of cylinder). Near-cathode arc discharge column moves over circular working surface under gas-dynamic action of vortex flow of working medium. Increased area of working surface and motion of near-cathode portion of arc discharge column reduce considerably erosion wear of cathode both in striking the arc and in operating mode. Before striking the arc, rod cathode of second stage is heated by working medium flow escaping from first stage. Striking the arc is effected at thermal emitting mode, thus considerably reducing erosion attack of cathode. EFFECT: increased service life of engine. |
