Lock mechanism fitted to existing rubbish bins

The locking device may be retrofitted to an existing rubbish bin. The lid (1) of the bin has a hook (4) attached to its underside, which may engage with a latching or locking lever (3). The movement of this lever is limited by two stops (7,17) and it is hinged at its bottom end. The lever rests naturally against the first of the two stops and may be lifted up by a cam (9) attached to a cylinder lock (10), until it rests against the second stop and is clear of the end (5) of the hook attached to the lid.
