The device pushes a circlip (5) into a groove (3) from an initial position, in which it is held at the entrance to a conical bush section (4b). The device pushes the circlip into the conical section, which decreases in diameter towards the workpiece end. The circlip then passes into a cylindrical sleeve section which leads into the hole. The sleeve section comprises an internally cylindrical bush part (4a) which is supported within the hole circumference. The sleeve also has two guide plates (11) which project into the hole to reach the circular groove such that the circlip is guided into position.
