Catalyst system with oxide core

The system uses a crystalline oxide of one or more metal ions. The oxides used can be of vanadium, molybdenum, wolfram or of any mixture of these. The oxides consist of crystallites of a size of at least 5 nm. The oxides ar capable of absorbing hydrogen atoms into it grids. The surfaces of the oxides are partly covered by metal particles which are capable of consuming hydrogen or of giving off hydrogen. There is at least one metal particle per square micron, preferably per 0.1 square micron. The metal particle can be nickel, palladium and/or platinum.
