<p>A telephone set is provided with a germicidal device capable of disinfection and/or disinfestation of the handset and with a handset confinement device, said devices being able to either operate separately from or in combination with each other. In a preferred embodiment the handset confinement device is formed of a rotatable roundabout provided with one or more handsets which are disinfected at different times and made available one at a time in a space accessible to the user. In a public telephone such an access is permitted to users only after they put a valid payment means into the telephone.</p>
