The arrangement has sensors which periodically generate cooling system characteristic signal values and corresp. signal values correlated with fan activity, from which a computer derives a reference value which is stored sequentially. A series of mean reference signal values is derived from the reference value sequence at periodic time points and stored in association with the times to form a time field.
