Polishing method for manufacture of optical lenses

The work pressure is produced by a vacuum which is maintained between the surface of the lens (6) being polished and the polishing tool (10). An independent claim describes a polishing tool (10) which is mounted on a tool spindle (7). It has a central bore (11) connecting distribution channels (13) in a polishing tool to a rotary guide (12) of the polishing machine. Rotation is produced through a vacuum pipe (16) and vacuum regulator (17) connected to a compensating container (18) in which the vacuum is maintained by a vacuum pump. The distribution channels are connected to the porous polishing base (15). The lens is held in the lens holder (4) and can carry out small axial movements but is reliably driven by the rotating workpiece spindle (1).
