Streptococcus agalactiae GBS3.1 DNA sequences, primers and probes, useful for detection and diagnosis

Streptococcus agalactiae GBS3.1 DNA sequences are new. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a method to detect S. agalactiae nucleic acids comprising the following steps: hybridization of an oligonucleotide probe with a S. agalactiae nucleic acid sequence, where the probe comprises at least 10 contiguous nucleotides of a S. agalactiae GBS3.1 sequence; and detection of the hybridization between the probe and S. agalactiae nucleic acids; (2) detection of S. agalactiae nucleic acid sequence, comprising: hybridization of at least one amplification primer, comprising a target binding sequence, with a S. agalactiae nucleic acid sequence, where the target binding sequence comprises at least 10 nucleotides of the S. agalactiae GBS3.1 sequence; amplification of the S. agalactiae nucleic acid with the primer(s); and detection of the amplified S. agalactiae nucleic acid; (3) an isolated S. agalactiae GBS3.1 DNA sequence; (4) an oligonucleotide containing a target binding sequence, comprising at least 10 contiguous nucleic acids of the isolated DNA from (3); and (5) a kit for the detection of S. agalactiae nucleic acid.
