The corresponding devices (32) are located in electronic markings (22) in the laundry items (18, 20) and are equipped to transmit data (18,20) stored in a data storage (30) of the electronic markings (22). The transmitter/receiver (14) is connected to a control circuit featuring a comparison circuit (12) for verifying whether the received data of the electronic marking (22) corresponds to the properties of other laundry items and/or to the adjusted washing program of a washing or cleaning machine. A blocking or releasing signal is generated depending on the comparison result. The signal can be led to a display (12) or it controls the operation of the machine via the control circuit (12).
