The valve is an elliptical butterfly valve (2), which lies at an angle (alpha) less than 90 degrees to the axis (10) of the air inlet tube (6). The valve pivots about a central axis (8) and has a thickened rim (14) with a groove carrying an elastomer ring. There are deep pockets at intervals in the rim, accommodating inwardly extending tongues (16) of the elastomer material.
