PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To analyze an access pattern against a group of documents which are linked together in a WWW etc. SOLUTION: An estimating technique known as an 'activated transmission' is applied. The experiential data on an access log, etc., are collected from group of documents of a WWW, etc., (201), an initial activation matrix showing an estimated number of users starting at a relevant page is initialized for every page of the document group (202) and a transition matrix showing the possibility of transition between the pages is initialized (203). The experiential data are analyzed based on a surfing rule to generate a damping function which damps the activity as it's transmitted via a network (204). When an activated transmission algorithm is executed, the activity is given to group documents of interest and then transmitted via the network until the activity reaches a stable pattern of activation in all documents (205). Then the desired information is extracted from the stable pattern of activation (206).
