The converter has a low-voltage part for input or output of a low voltage level, and a high voltage part for input or output of a high voltage level. The low voltage part and the high voltage part are connected via an open drain, open source, open collector and/or open emitter stage. The open emitter stage may include complementary transistors which are driven by the voltage level to be converted, and the corresponding inverted voltage level. An inverter is provided for inverting the voltage level.
