The method involves forming general frames with a transmission time corresponding to an ISDN standard time frame, within a first and a second transceiver. The frames generated by the first receiver consist of m base frames, where m is an integer larger than or equal to one. The frames generated by the second transceiver consist of n base frames, where n is an integer larger than or equal to two. The base frames correspond at least with the bits number to the selected ISDN standard, and n is not equal m. The general frames of the first transceiver are transmitted to the second receiver, and the general frames of the second transceiver are transmitted to the first transceiver. Preferably, the transmission duration of a general frame is 1.5 ms and the general frames are part of an overframe which includes a frame identifier.
