PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the quality of an image. SOLUTION: Carriages 111, 112 mounted the reading optical system of an image reading device are travelled by a power transmission device having slant teeth pullies 21, 22 and a slant teeth belt 23. At the travelling time of the slant teeth belt 23, the slant teeth belt 23 receives a thrust along the axis direction of the slant teeth pullies 21, 22. But, in respective slant teeth pullies 21, 22, by providing flanges 27, 28 on the side in which the slant teeth belt 23 receives the thrust at the reading time of the picture, the movement of the slant teeth belt 23 along the axis direction of the pullies 21, 22 is regulated.
