PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress production of a magnetization component in the plane direction of a perpendicular magnetic layer of a perpendicular magnetic tape. SOLUTION: The producing method of a perpendicular magnetic tape 28 includes a first production process and a second production process described below. In the first production process, while a base film 28a as the recording medium base body of a perpendicular magnetic tape 28 is travelled from a tape supply roll 23 to a tape winding roll 24 by way of a cooling can roll 27, a metal magnetic material 30 in a vapor deposition crucible 29 disposed almost just under the cooling can roll 27 is vaporized to deposit a first perpendicular magnetic layer (28a1) having almost perpendicular magnetization on the base film. In the second process, while the base film 28a with the first perpendicular magnetic layer 28a1 formed after the first production process is travelled from the tape winding roll 24 to the tape supply roll 23 by way of the cooling can roll 27, the magnetic material 30 in the vapor deposition crucible 29 is vaporized to deposit a second perpendicular magnetic layer (28a2) having almost perpendicular magnetization on the first perpendicular magnetic layer (28a1).
