PURPOSE: A serial/parallel selection converter is provided which selectively converts serial input data into parallel data and converts parallel input data into serial data. CONSTITUTION: A serial/parallel converter includes a plurality of serial input/output conversion latches(SSL1-SSL4) for inputting or outputting serial data, a plurality of parallel input/output selection conversion latches(PSL1-PSL4) for inputting or outputting parallel data, and an NAND(ND31) gate for receiving a control signal and a serial/parallel selection control signal. The converter further has an inverter(IN33) for inverting the output of the NAND gate, a plurality of transfer gates(TG31-TG34) controlled by the output of the NAND gate and the output of the inverter to transfer the output or input of the D-port of the parallel input/output selection conversion latch and the Q-port of the serial input/output conversion latch, and an inverter(IN34) for inverting the serial/parallel selection control signal. The converter also has a plurality of transfer gates(TGS31-TGS33) controlled by the serial/parallel selection control signal and the inverted signal of the serial/parallel selection control signal to transfer the input or output of the Q-port of the serial input/output conversion latch and the D-port of the next serial input/output conversion latch, and a plurality of transfer gates(TGS34-TGS36) controlled by the output of the NAND gate and the output of the inverter to transfer the input or output of the Q-port of the serial input/output conversion latch and the D-port of the next serial input/output conversion latch.
