摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new (co)polymer having entirely unexpected unique performance and function, and useful as an optically functional material such as an optically active substance separation material by introducing optically active ether group on an aromatic group. SOLUTION: This (co)polymer is such one as to consist mainly of unit of formula I [R1 is a group of formula II (R2 to R4 are each a group differing from one another, being a univalent aromatic group, H or the like; (n) is the number of methylene group(s), being an integer of >=0)], have optically active ether group on the side chain, and >=5 in polymerization degree. The (co)polymer is obtained by anionic polymerization of an optically active aromatic isocyanate of formula II in the presence of a polymerization initiator (pref. n-butyllithium) pref. at -120 to -50 deg.C. By the way, it is recommended that the monomer of formula III is prepared by reaction between the corresponding hydroxyaromatic ester and a tosylate derived from the corresponding optically active alcohol to form an alkoxyaromatic carboxylic acid, which, in turn, is converted to the corresponding acyl azide, which is then subjected to Curtius rearrangement reaction.
