The control method provides electrical adjustment of the throttle element controlling the engine air intake during starting and/or stopping of the engine, to ensure maximum opening of the throttle element, with movement from the maximum opening position when the engine revs reach a given value, when the starter motor is disengaged, or when the engine has been running for a timed interval. An Independent claim for a control device for an engine is also included.
