PROCESSOR PERFORMING REGISTER NUMBER CONVERSION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a register number specified by an instruction different from the number of a physical register which is actually used even when a superscalar processor renames registers. SOLUTION: A decoding part 11 is equipped with a register number conversion part 110 which converts the register number specified by the instruction into the number of the physical register and after the register number specified by the instruction is converted into the number of the physical register when the instruction is decoded, a register renaming part 12 changes the physical register number into a renamed register number. When the register renaming is performed on a superscalar basis, the register number specified by the instruction can efficiently be converted into the number of the actually used physical register.
