PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a low-viscosity flame retardant epoxy resin composition excellent in flame retardance, scarcely generating a toxic gas and excellent in moisture resistance without using a halogen-based flame retardant, and to provide an electrical part subjected to an insulating treatment using the composition. SOLUTION: This flame retardant epoxy resin composition is obtained by adding m- or p-cresyl glycidyl ether as a reactive diluent in an amount of 20-30 wt.% based on the epoxy resin in an epoxy resin composition containing an epoxy resin, an acid anhydride and hydrated alumina. The electrical part can be obtained by carrying out an insulating treatment using the flame retardant epoxy resin composition.
