PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain space saving of a container terminal. SOLUTION: This terminal has a dock 60 excavated in a right angle direction relating to a quay 12 to make a container ship 7 capable of entering, a gantry crane 8a mounted runnable astride the dock 60 to have two or more trolleys 8d to load a container on and unload it from the container ship 7, a container storage device 30 arranged along the dock 60 in its both sides, a building 50 provided adjacent to a dock side of the container storage device 30 to have a flat roof lower than it, a traverser 20 mounting the container to run or traverse on the roof of the building 50 or in the container storage device 30 to give/receive the container between the traverser 20 and the gantry crane 8a, and a temporarily placing carriage running on the building 50 to temporarily place a hatch cover carried by the gantry crane 8a.
