The pulse generation device has a number of programmable voltage sources (12,14,16,18) coupled to a pulse output via controlled switches, e.g. change-over switches (30,32,34,36,40,42,44,46) for connection with a positive or a negative output wire (outp,outn). The voltage sources can be provided by digital/analogue converters each having a resistance network for voltage division, or with a common resistance network used for a number of digital/analogue converters.
