PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extract RNA from milk rapidly, simply and efficiently and to preserve the RNA for a long period of time by using an agent for RNA extraction containing phenol and guanidine thiocyanate. SOLUTION: RNA is extracted from milk and preserved for a long period of time by using an agent for RNA extraction containing phenol and guanidine thiocyanate. The amount of the agent. for RNA extraction to sample milk is preferably 1:1 to 1:5. The prepared RNA sample is rapidly frozen to -80 deg.C so that it can be preserved for a long period of >=3 days. For example, when dry ice is added to ethanol and obtained cold ethanol is used, sample milk after milking is treated with the agent for RNA extraction, RNA is extracted and can be rapidly frozen. When RNA is prepared from the obtained sample, the sample is subjected to ultracentrifugation preferably at 4 deg.C at 15,000 RPM number of revolutions by using an organic solvent (e.g. chloroform).
