PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a heat ray-screening base plate having a sufficiently low visible light reflectance at an advantageous cost by spraying a transparent high temperature base plate with a coating solution containing a compound organic substance having a Si-O-Sn bond and thereby thermally decomposing the compound organic substance to form a coating film. SOLUTION: This heat ray-screening base plate is obtained by preparing a coating solution of a compound organic substance having a Si-O-Sn bond in a Si/Sn weight ratio of preferably 0.2-2.2 in a solvent, spraying the coating solution on the surface of a transparent high temperature substrate, such as a floated glass plate heated at 500-700 deg.C, by a spray method, and thereby thermally decomposing the coated compound organic substance with the heat of the base plate to form the Si-O-Sn compound oxide coating film. The coating film has an excellent heat ray-screening function and a sufficient visible light reflectance and does thereby not give a glare appearance. For example, a compound organic compound of the formula (Et is ethyl group; Bu is butyl group) is used to form a Si-O-Sn compound oxide coating film having a film thickness of 55 nm and a visible light reflectance of 11.6%.
