PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the operability by receiving a photographing command without completing recording. SOLUTION: When an operator operates a shutter key 53, YUV data corresponding to an object image at an operating point of time is subject to JPEG compression through direct memory access DMA and a compression data area of an SDRAM 58 stores compressed data. A CPU 44 stores intermittently the compressed data stored in the SDRAM 58 by 20 kbytes each to a memory card 55 and discriminates presence of a photographing command at an intermission of recording. When the CPU 44 discriminates presence of the photographing command, the similar photographing processing is executed and the compression data area of the SDRAM 58 stores the compression data.
