PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester-based fiber made mainly of a polyester obtained by the copolymerization reaction of specific phosphorus-based compounds in specific amounts, excellent in flame retardancy, antibacterial activity and durability, and useful for textiles. SOLUTION: This polyester-based fiber is made mainly of a polyester where at least two kinds of phosphorus-based compounds each having at least one ester-formable functional group are copolymerized to the main chain of the polyester. One kind of the phosphorus-based compounds is a phosphonium salt of a sulfonic acid group-containing aromatic dicarboxylic acid expressed by formula I (wherein, A is an aromatic group; X1 and X2 are each an ester- formable functional group; R1-R4 are each an alkyl and at least one of them is a 10-20C alkyl). The fiber contains 300-5,000 ppm phosphorus atom based on the weight of the fiber itself. One kind as the rest of the phosphorus-based compounds is preferably a compound of formula II [wherein, R1 is an ester- formable monovalent functional group; R2 and R3 are each a halogen, a 1-10C hydrocarbon, or the like; A is a bivalent- or trivalent organic residue; (n1) is 1 or 2; (n2) and (n3) are each 0-4].
