PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a carriage which is manually driven in a y-direction easily catchable by attaching a handle to the carriage. SOLUTION: A scanner supports a carriage 4 mounted with a light source 6 extended in an x-direction, in a state where the carriage 4 can be moved in a y-direction at both ends in the x-direction and coupled with a y-direction driving wire at one end. A handle 18 which can be turned from a housing position to a using position is attached to the carriage 4, with the center of rotation of the handle 18 at the driving wire-side end. The handle 18 is turned automatically and returned to the housing position from the using position by torque caused by its own weight. The handle 18 has a long hole, though which a long shaft body 19 which becomes the center of rotation is passed in the longitudinal direction for housing the handle 18, with the center of gravity of the handle 18 at the driving wire-side end.
